Geographical Information System with Groundwater Database
Responsible for updating and maintaining of the hydrogeological and geochemical databases and preparation of Water resources maps and reports under various groundwater development projects employing Geographical Information system applications.
The main goal of this division is to develop Hydro-informatic Database containing all data related to groundwater as a tool of Decision Support System (DSS) facilitating Groundwater modeling, for the future groundwater exploration, development and management activities in Sri Lanka.
The main activities of the this division are collection, evaluation and dissemination of geographic information related to groundwater on production of groundwater planning and operational maps, providing assistance and technical training in the areas of GIS and GPS etc. and providing imagery interpretation, geospatial analysis and mapping projects to achieve different objective of the groundwater development projects.
This division undertakes all geo-scientific map preparation related to groundwater exploration, development and management in entire Sri Lanka. Based on groundwater monitoring programs, develop scenarios for spatial and temporal variations of quality and quantity of groundwater.
This unit also provides facility for printing and scanning of large paper formats (size A0). View Maps>>
Analytical Laboratory
Equipped with a wide range of scientific instruments to analyze water samples for microbiological and physical characteristics.
Library
Provide a wide range of reference material on groundwater and technological studies for Scientific Technical and Scholars.
Large volume of publish and unpublished materials on groundwater related studies is available. A bibliography complied by Water Resources Board in December 2000 on groundwater studies in Sri Lanka is a database providing information on groundwater related issues. The database consists of 327 library materials for the period 1955 – 1999. These materials can be categorized into 04 main groups such as groundwater quality, pollution and environmental effects, groundwater behaviour, occurrence and balance, groundwater exploration, development and management and groundwater demand, deficits, consumption and supply.
The list of publish and unpublished material and few abstracts of groundwater studies can be downloaded from the website.
